Get it. Just get it. Forget fancy stuff you probably don’t use anyway. Been around routers a long time. While it is true the AC4000 is not a sophisticated router in terms of the firmware that does not mean it is substandard. It is quite powerful with its quad core CPU and tri-radio. Want to run entware, Plex server, etc.? Then move along. Nothing to see here. Want a very very fast powerful router that works? This is your choice.I just sent back a Netgear X6S and an Asus RT-86U because both had issues with keeping track of LAN wired clients, kept losing them from attached device information, and issues with our VPN like VOIP devices. My wife and I work from home. The AC4000 handles it all PERFECTLY. In fact it has more options for managing the VPN like/VOIP hard ware in NAT helper section.Very impressed. The quad core CPU keeps everything humming along including the network access to USB 3.0 attached drive.

Required replacement in 1 week This Archer AC4000, Archer A20, V 1.0 router was easy to set-up. I was set-up in about 20 minutes from un-boxing to having tested my speeds. I set-up and tested speeds on 3 other devices in about 15 minutes more. It’s large at about 8 inches square and about 4 inches from table to top of antennas. They recommend mounting on a wall for best coverage. It worked great for a week. There was an electrical storm, then I experienced problems. The first problem seems to be 1) the router port 1 going to my laptop 2) the hardwired connection shows as my 2.4 G wireless name. The router is connected to a UPS system which then connects to a high quality surge protector. My cable modem, NAS and external drive is also connected to the UPS system. My laptop is connected to the surge protector. The cable coax does not go through a surge protector. It is possible a lightening strike could be the issue through the coax cable, but I would expect other issues with the modem…

Do Not Buy-Two Defectective Units I cannot recall ever having felt the need to leave a one star review. I tend to either leave five stars or no review but I’ve never had such a terrible experience with this expensive of an item. This router broke 33 days after original purchase, Amazon would not exchange due it being after 30 days. Proceeded to take 4 days to finally get a return authorization from manufacturer and then 3 weeks to receive our replacement router under warranty. It has not been two weeks since the replacement router arrived and it has broken again. It’s connected to a surge protector and I’ve never had an issues with routers in the past. Customer support from Amazon was not able to help unless it’s about how to install.I do not recommend this product and I will now be reverting back to Netgear.
